I love taking advantage of loopholes, something that happens when buying crap by the pound over at the Goodwill Outlet. I have a few recent examples to show what I mean.
First are the various flavors of TV antennae. An old-school unit with lots of plastic and metal
costs considerably more than an amplified Mohu Leaf, a much better antenna.
Tennis rackets are another item where this comes into play. High-tech carbon fiber units weigh much less than the cheaper alternatives, but once again, when you’re paying by the pound they cost less.
And for some reason that I still don’t understand I bought a Bruder Mercedes Actos truck like this one:
It weighs considerably less than cheaper, lower quality units and as such doesn’t cost as much on the used market. Maybe I’ll give it to a friend’s son, or maybe I’ll convert it into a computer or something. It was just a cool thing that set me back a buck so I figured WTH.

The goodwill outlet near me originally sold bikes by the pound. I bought my son a nice aluminum frame trek kids bike for significantly less than what a junky Walmart bike would’ve cost.
They changed locations and now price bikes individually.

Yah I used to visit the Goodwill outlet in Seattle since it was right near my work. Its Strange having to think about weught but great for certain things. Got lots of cheap computer cables, hdmi cables, usb Wi-Fi cards, stacks of cable modems (quite a few were still activated!) Keyboards and mice were great deals.

Oh, I’ve got more cables than I will ever use thanks to t his place. When I moved across country 5 years ago I left behind boxes of cables, and now I think I have more than I ever did back then, although I probably have more usable stuff now (I really don’t need those ADB and parallel port cables, for example).
If I’m at a retail thrift store I find myself reconsidering certain purchases because of the weight of the item, only to remind myself that this restriction doesn’t apply at that location.
